Another one of the Best Coaches chooses to call FC Irvine his home.
Martin Lippens has joined FC Irvine. He has a wonderful resume. He played professional. He has coached in college. He coached a CIF team to win Division 1 Championship. More recently he took a Silver Elite team at another club to Gold and then Premier. In his first year he captured the Premier GU16 Title. He has won numerous accolades and championships along the way. He will coach two FC Irvine teams and assist the club in becoming one of the top clubs in Southern California.

Former Copa Libertadores Champion and Chivas USA Goalkeeper coach joins FC Irvine
We are fortunate to have two goalkeeper coaches. Our newest, Leo Percovich, has experience as a player winning both Copa Libertadores and Uruguayan First Division Championships. He also made his mark as a professional coach, coaching MLS goalkeepers at Colorado Rapids in 2006-2007 before assuming his current position. Currently he is the head goalkeeper coach at local MLS team Chivas USA. We are excited to add this enthusiastic and competent trainer to our staff. At the Colorado Storm youth soccer club Leo was responsible for the youth goalie development. Three of those teams won Colorado state championships so clearly Leo fits the FC Irvine model of developing outstanding players, his bio can be found at the following linkLeo Percovich Bio. See "Training" tab above for times for his Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday goalkeeper training sessions, for training information feel free to e-mail training@fcirvine.com.

Three Former National Team Players on FC Irvine Staff
If you are looking for quality training look no farther than FC Irvine. We now have the good fortune of having 3 former National team stars involved with the quality training and coaching we are seeking to provide. Peter Kim played for both the Korean Youth and Full National team. Carlos Llamosa played 29 times for the US National team and along the way won 2 MLS Cups see Carlos Llamosa Bio. Last but certainly not least Preki played 28 times for US National team in addition to scoring against Brazil, playing in the English Premier League and recieving multiple individual honors during his distinguished career, see more here Preki Bio.

It is also perfect for non club players looking to get a taste of professional club level training to benefit them in whatever league they play in now. Again this training is done year round. These Friday sessions are open to the public, if you are interested look for coach Francisco every Friday from 5-6:30 PM at Harvard D Field, if you are a non member please contact us before your first session so that you will be covered by our club insurance policy. Spring Cup 2007
Three FC Irvine teams play in Spring Cup and the result? One Champion and Two Finalists. On the boys side BU14 FC Irvine Matrix and BU16 FC Irvine Black are both Finalists. On the girls side GU15 FC Irvine wins it all! Both girls and coaches are enjoying the massive 15 pound crystal and wood CSL Spring Flight 1 trophy.

Passionate about Soccer
The more you are exposed to FC Irvine, we hope you will see that we are passionate about the game and put a lot of energy into trying to provide outstanding training and coaching. We feel that we can only really control the development of our players and if we do that well then the results should speak for themselves. With that in mind we are really pleased with the Fall 2007 CSL season, as a club we tied ISC Strikers with a 131% win to loss ratio, this far surpasses the other two Irvine based clubs who both have win to loss ratios below 100%. So if you and your family are passionate about the game consider being a part of FC Irvine.

FC Irvine GU16 Reach League Cup Sweet 16
FC Irvine GU16 Reach League Cup Sweet 16 make an impressive run recording shut outs in pool play versus Silver Elite North team, 3rd place Gold team in Round of 32 and 4rth place Gold team in Sweet 16. Team knocks off 3rd place Gold team (Round of 32) then ties 4rth place Gold team in Sweet 16, loses in Sweet 16 on Penalty Kicks. Dominant defense and outstanding teamwork lead to superb results. As a GU15 team FC Irvine GU15 also scored 2 goals against the State Cup Champions Claremont Stars (Gold team) with whom they lost to in the State Cup Semi-Finals. This was the most goals recorded against the State Cup Champions the whole tournament. Claremont went on to win the Championship game 3-0. Claremont is the same team that the GU16 team tied in League Cup Sweet 16 another clear indicator of our teams improvement and strong develoment program. Also noteworthy is the FC Irvine BU14 team that lost to State Cup Champions Chivas USA 2-3 in the Round of 16 during the 2nd overtime. Chivas went on to beat it's next 3 opponents 5-1, 4-0 and 2-0 in the Championship game. This is another impressive FC Irvine team deserves a look if you are seeking quality training.

Preki is named MLS Head Coach of the year!
Congratulations goes out to Chivas USA and it's fans on the recognition by Major League Soccer of the very talented Preki. Not only was Preki considered one of the best players of all time, but now he is being recognized for his quality coaching.

We are proud that Preki will continue to direct club strategy and will continue to coach two FC Irvine teams for the 2007-2008 season. This is truly a great opportunity to for motivated club players to get hands on training from a current MLS head coach.

Mike Matkovich and Alex Zotinca have been added to the FC Irvine staff!
Both of these FC Irvine coaches bring a lot of credibility and experience to our program and to the players we are developing. Mike is the current Chivas USA assistant coach, prior to that he was Toronto FC Assistant Coach. As head coach he has won National Championships as well as having coached several youth players to national team and professional level, he has the highest USSF "A" and NSCAA Premier license.

Mike will both complement and assist FC Irvine in taking our players and teams to a higher level.

He has played professionally for 12 years, including playing in 3 UEFA Cups with European power Steaua Bucharest where he won the Romanian Cup, after moving to the US he has played 4 years with the MLS franchise Kansas City Wizards including 6 play off appearances.

Alex currently plays for Chivas USA. This will be Alex's second year coaching at FC Irvine.

Coach Suk Won (Peter) Kim
Coach Peter is another elite coach to join the ranks of the FC Irvine family. Peter played at the highest level as a player for the Korean National team. He will be coaching a Bronze BU13 and Silver BU16 team. Look for more in the future on his accomplishments and his teams successes. The BU13 team has several spaces for new players. The BU16 team has space for a few new players.

Preki believes very much in player development. Come be a part of the FC Irvine program guided by Preki.

FC Irvine teams have the best winning percentage of all four Irvine clubs!
After the first 4 weeks of league, FC Irvine teams have a better win loss ratio than even the most established club in Irvine. I think this is notable in that it shows that FC Irvine is bringing quality training to it's teams. As a three year old club we consider ourselves to be very developmental. We can control the quality of our training and the results should speak for themselves. In the future we hope to attract the best young athletes and we will mold them into champions. We will also continue to offer year around skill training to benefit our club players and serious non club players looking for an edge.

Two FC Irvine teams win brackets and four will advance to higher brackets in the 2007-2008 season!
GU16 FC Irvine (Silver Elite South) may jump to Gold for the 2006-2007 season with the best showing of any Silver Elite team in League Cup, they recorded 6 shut outs during league season and 2 shut outs in League Cup.

BU13 FC Irvine wins Bronze South with just 1 loss and no ties and will automatically be promoted to BU14 Silver next year.

BU15 Matrix finishes 2nd in Silver South and will move up to BU16 Silver Elite next year.

BU15 Green Tigers win Bronze South and will be BU16 Silver South next year.

FC Irvine BU17 finishes 2nd in Silver South and will be BU18 Gold or BU19 Siler Elite South next year.

Other notable teams include two BU14 FC Irvine teams both with 6 wins in first season, we are also very proud of GU17 FC Irvine who went from no wins last year in Bronze West to 7 wins in Silver South, great improvement girls.

In Loving Memory
A dear family friend Galen Gibbs died Saturday May 27, 2006 of an apparent drug overdose. Galen was just 17 years old. If Galen was here today I think he would agree when I say that, "Drugs really f*** you up." After car accidents drug overdoses are the second most common cause of accidental death. Be a part of something better! Take soccer for example, you can make great friends, learn discipline, learn teamwork, at the same time you can have a lot of fun while working on your passion and importantly live an athletic healthy life free from addiction.
Galen was probably like thousands of other great kids in Irvine, innocent, nice, funny, athletic and creative. He was the last kid you would have thought would use drugs, but in the end he started using them and in less than one year it took away his life. I pray that he did not die in vain. Remind your kids that drugs do not solve problems, or fix insecurities, they can be very dangerous. Drug addiction takes away the joy of life and drug abuse in general brings nothing but pain. Regular drugs use ultimately lead to a life of lies and misery. Drugs take away friends, drugs take away fun and finally drugs take away life.
Have them take a moment to read this. Help them to make the right choice. It is not enough to just say no to drugs. They need to know why to say no to drugs
May Galen rest in peace.
