A dear family friend Galen Gibbs died Saturday May 27, 2006 of an apparent drug overdose. Galen was just 17 years old. If Galen was here today I think he would agree when I say that, "Drugs don't bring any lasting value. If you or someone you know is using drugs it would be better to find out why they are using and immeadiately find a better and healthier way to bring lasting happiness. Reach out to the best professional or personal help that you can find and do it quickly before it is to late." After car accidents drug overdoses are the second most common cause of accidental death among young people. Drug abuse is usually a symptom of some pain that users self medicate with drug use. Unfortunately the drug use does not solve problems, it only makes them worse. If someone you know has a drug abuse problem don't ignore the problem, reach out for help. Solve the problem, find out what the cause of pain is and get that fixed. Be a part of something really positive and make a better life for yourself and those around you!
Galen was probably like thousands of other great kids in Irvine, innocent, nice, funny, athletic and creative. He was the last kid you would have thought would use drugs, but in the end he started using them and in less than one year they took his life away. I pray that he did not die in vain. Remind your kids that drugs do kill, drugs do not solve problems, or fix insecurities, drugs are powerful brain manipulators and can be very dangerous. Drug addiction takes away the joy of life and drug abuse in general brings nothing but pain.
Have your children take a moment to read this. Let them know that there are cures for the insecurities and pain that typically cause drug abuse. Help them to make the right choice. It is not just as simple as having will power and saying no to drugs. They need to know why to say no to drugs and where to go if they are having a problem with drugs.
May Galen rest in peace.

FC Irvine Development Academy starts March 1, 2009.

Rob Rennie a top developer of youth soccer talent will head our academy with the assistance of many of our other very talented coaches. This is a year around program that seeks to build both the passion and skill of players aged 6 to 18. Participants should expect to see a meaningful improvement in skill level. The development academy program is completely seperate from our club teams. We encourage Academy members to play in AYSO, Grass Roots, Indoor, our FC Irvine club teams or for another club whatever league best fits. Our objective is to make all soccer players better. Again there is no conflict in participating in our academy and any other soccer program. The academy should help take your son or daughter to the next level. For more information on the academy please click the "Training" tab above FC Irvine Development Academy, or e-mail camps@fcirvine.com or call 714-290-6888.
